“The deputy was responding (with lights and siren) to a burglary-in-progress call,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “A homeowner stated someone was attempting to break into their residence.”
The deputy reportedly lost control of his patrol car after it skidded and struck several trees in the center median, according to a Sheriff’s Station report.
The crash took place around 11:40 p.m.
The deputy suffered a small contusion to the back of his head and complained of pain in his left leg, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
He stated he was wearing his seatbelt, and the patrol vehicle sustained major damage.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Traffic Unit of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The deputy was not seriously injured, and is at home recovering from the crash, Dubin said.
The call ended up being a domestic dispute between a couple, and no burglary or home invasion took place, despite the initial report.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials made pictures of the crash available after a request.
The name of the deputy was not released by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.
