The Art Classic Gala fundraiser supports art scholarships for Santa Clarita Valley high school students as well as community outreach programs.
“Our Scholarship Fund grows every year, helping high school students realize their future as professional artists,” said Dody Rogers, Chairperson for the Art Classic Gala.
More than 100 exhibitors from the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association are expected to have their artwork on display and be the recipients of awards.
The Art Classic Gala provides an opportunity for local residents to view exhibited artwork ranging from 2-D and 3-D visual art, art composed in the following mediums: watercolor, oil and dry mediums, and visual art in the form of sculpture, photography and collages from local Santa Clarita artists.
The gala will culminate with an awards ceremony where the exhibited art pieces are expected to be judged according to these aforementioned categories and other categories including Best of Show, the People’s Choice award and the City of Santa Clarita’s Excellence in Arts award.
The renowned judges for the awards ceremony are: Phyllis Doyon, gallery owner and expert watercolor artist; Julie Snyder, award-winning oil painter, seasoned traveler; and John Nichols, photographer and curator of the Santa Paula Art Museum.
Most of the exhibited art pieces are expected to be available for purchase at the show. Also, a silent auction will provide additional opportunities to purchase original artwork from local Santa Clarita artists featured at the Art Classic Gala.
“This has always been a beautiful event. The artists are thrilled when they win their ribbons. The other artists get to show off their works and hopeful score a sale or a commission for a private painting. The silent auction bidders walk away with a treasure-trove of goodies,” said Olga Kaczmar, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Arists’ Association.
Musical entertainment, complimentary refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, wine and desserts are expected to be provided at the Art Classic Gala art show.
The exhibit will be open free to the public on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 10-4 pm. Tickets for the Gala on Saturday, Oct. 19, are $20.
