“These seminars are to help foster awareness in our community,” says Donna Nuzzi, the city of Santa Clarita emergency services supervisor. “Especially earthquake preparedness, which is obviously a significant threat to our community.”
There will be a seminar tonight, Saturday and on Monday evening here in Santa Clarita, all on different topics.
“This national campaign calls citizens to develop family emergency plans, create disaster kits, stay informed, and get involved in community preparedness,” according to a news release.
“The city of Santa Clarita’s mission in an emergency situation is to save lives, according to a news release. “By protecting property and the environment in situations associated with natural disasters, manmade disasters, and national security emergencies, the city follows these emergency management objectives”:
-
Manage and coordinate overall emergency response and recovery operations.
-
Coordinate with appropriate federal, state and other local government agencies, as well as applicable segments of private sector entities and volunteer agencies.
-
Establish priorities and resolve any conflicting demands for support.
-
Prepare and disseminate emergency public information to inform, alert and warn the public.
-
Disseminate damage information and other essential data.
-
Plan for the continuation of government.
Residents are also encouraged to be prepared to be without utility lifelines like water, gas and electric.
You should know where your utility shuts-off are located and how to shut them off. Residents should also stock up on water. One gallon per person is recommended for a minimum of three days.
