After a brief hiatus, Messina’s show will again be broadcasting locally Monday through Friday from 2 to 3 p.m.
“The Real Side” started back in June 2010 as a suggestion by KHTS co-owner Jeri Seratti-Goldman.
“We’ve got an open hour, why don’t you see what you can do with it,” Messina said she told him.
What began as a one hour show one day a week soon became a three-hour show, and then a daily show.
Messina said that his show stands out from other local programming on KHTS, because it focuses on national issues and lends itself to a wider audience.
He currently broadcasts on five other radio stations and has listeners in 42 states and 38 countries.
The goal of “The Real Side” is to hit issues head-on, Messina said.
“I don’t stay away from anything,” he said. “There isn’t one topic I won’t talk about. I think the uncomfortable social issues need to be talked about, even on local radio.”
Some of these topics include illegal immigration, racism, education and government.
“He is interested in hearing both sides and has no problem taking on taboo issues with real questions looking for real answers,” according to his biography on “The Real Side” website.
Messina is also a member of the William S. Hart Union High School District board.
For those unable to listen to Messina’s show when it airs, podcasts are available on Messina’s website or HomeTownStation.com.
