The event will also serve as the grand opening of Artisan Java & Juice, a unique non-profit store located inside of Savia. Artisan will be handing out free samples of its fresh cold-pressed juices throughout the afternoon. The store donates 100% of its profits to designated non-profit organizations within the Newhall community.

“Savia” is a Spanish word that is often translated as “energy, vitality or lifeblood.” Real Life Church created Savia: A Community Partnership to be a place that infuses these same attributes into the local community. The 23,600-square-foot community center required approximately one year to construct, opening in May 2013, and was fully financed by the contributions made by individuals who attend Real Life Church.

Savia serves as the Newhall campus of Real Life Church, which includes weekly worship services in English on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 10:00, and in Spanish on Sundays at Noon (“Vida Real”). The Vida Real ministry team, led by newly appointed Pastor Mario Ortiz, will be on hand at the Community Expo to raise awareness of the Spanish-language services and Spanish-language children’s ministry for kids from infants through sixth grade students.

“We’re excited to meet our neighbors in the Newhall community and to show God’s love in a practical way by helping parents get their kids off to school with free backpacks filled with school supplies,” said Ortiz.

Savia is also home to three dynamic non-profit organizations that serve the needs of local families coping with the pain of drug addiction, domestic violence and other traumatic circumstances:

·Single Mothers Outreach, a grassroots organization that helps families facing sudden housing instability, income loss, emotional trauma, and economic and social discrimination;

·The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley, which provides safety and support to victims of domestic violence while working to break the cycle of abuse; and

·A Light of Hope, a support center for families in crisis that provides support for youth and young adults 14-26 years of age who are struggling with substance abuse and/or self-destructive actions or behaviors.

“Savia is a space we created to foster hope and healing in the Santa Clarita Valley by bringing together the faith community of Real Life Church with terrific non-profit organizations that are doing life-changing work to help families in our community,” said Rusty George, lead pastor of Real Life Church. “With this free community event, we’re showcasing the different components of Savia and trying to raise awareness of the practical ways that we’re able to serve the Newhall community.”

According to George, Savia will soon be home to Celebrate Recovery, a Biblical and balanced program that helps individuals struggling to overcome hurts, hang-ups and habits. Future plans for Savia include a wide range of programs designed to engage with the residents of the Newhall community.
