With a new center expected to help more than 4,000 local residents this year, Rainbow Dental Center officials hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning to celebrate the opening of a new Canyon Country location.

The center offers dental services to prenatal women and children from ages 6 months to young adults until their 21st birthday, focusing on serving the uninsured and underserved sectors of the population.

“The center is a two-year labor of love that started as a vision and ended up with six dental operatories,” said Kimberly Wyard, CEO of Northeast Valley Health Centers, which operates five locations in the Santa Clarita Valley that serve tens of thousands. “It’s a marriage of private and public partnerships.”

The center received commendations from the city, county and state Assembly representatives who were on hand for the ceremony.

Councilman TimBen Boydston called the centers “an important social safety net” for the Santa Clarita Valley, noting its focus on serving those who couldn’t afford health care.  

The other centers are the Santa Clarita Health Center and the Valencia Health Center, and there are two other locations within facilities that also provide support for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program, a federally-funded health and nutrition program.   

The center’s doctors offer a variety of services that are covered by Medi-Cal, including examinations and X-rays, preventive care and education, cleanings and emergency dental services for prenatal women.

For children, the Northeast Valley Health Corp., which operates the Rainbow Dental Center, offers fluoride treatments, sealants, cleanings, fillings and many other services.

Its office hours are Mon. – Thu. from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
