Santa Clarita City Council Race 2014: Candidate Fundraising By The Numbers
Santa Clarita City Council candidates filed financial papers that closed their fundraising efforts in conjunction with a Jan. 31 deadline, according to city records.

The semiannual disclosures are filled for City Council fundraising efforts from Jan. 1 to June 30, and from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2013.
The election takes place April 8 this year.
Here’s a look at the forms for each of the Santa Clarita City Council candidates regarding their campaign contributions (in alphabetical order):
1. Dante Acosta
Dante Acosta’s forms show that he raised $5,816 in contributions since Aug. 26, while spending $4,020.81 during the same period.
EZ Access Self Storage donated $1,000 on Jan. 16.
2. Sandra Bull
Bull did not file any donations for the most recent filing period.
3. Moazzem H. Chowdhury
Chowdhury did not file any donations for the most recent filing period.
4. Dennis Conn
Conn did not file any donations for the most recent filing period.
5. Stephen P. Daniels
Daniels did not file any donations for the most recent filing period.
6. Alan Ferdman
Canyon Country resident Alan Ferdman put $9,314 in his coffers during the most recent filing period, between a $2,000 loan and $7,314 in contributions.
During the first filing period in 2013, Ferdman gathered $7,357 -- another $2,000 in a loan, $5,157 in monetary contributions and $200 in nonmonetary donations.
Ferdman spent $1,893 in the first filing period and $1,015 in the most recent period, which left his campaign with $13,563 in assets, and $4,000 in outstanding debts for the loans.
7. Maria Gutzeit
Gutzeit disclosed a $10,000 loan and a $2,000 loan to her campaign fund.
8. Berta Gonzalez-Harper
Gonzalez-Harper took out $2,000 in loans for her campaign.
9. Duane Harte
Harte counted a $1,000 contribution from “Buck” McKeon for Congress, in addition to $5,470 over the last year, and received an additional $159 in nonmonetary contributions. He also took out a $5,000 loan for his campaign.
After spending $2,591 on his campaign in the last year, he still has $7,879 left for the last two months of the campaign season.
10. Marsha McLean
McLean raised $18,569 in this most recent campaign disclosure period, and a total of $22,041 in the last year. All of it was in the form of contributions. There was also an additional $476.40 in nonmonetary contributions.
There were $1,415.13 in expenditures, leaving her with an ending cash balance of $21,739.91 for the last two month of April’s race.
There was also an outstanding debt of $3,750 from a campaign loan in 2012.
11. Gloria Mercado-Fortine
Mercado-Fortine received a total of $22,269 in contributions, with $7,000 coming in the form of a loan. There was $2,859 in expenditures, placing her ending balance for the last reporting period at $20,410, according to city records. Her campaign had outstanding debts in the form of $7,000.
She received $1,000 in a donation from the labor union the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in January.
12. Laurene Weste
Weste raised a total of $18,276 during the last campaign disclosure period. Of that, $8,276 came from monetary contributions. There was $762.90 in expenditures reported. There was an outstanding debt totaling $3,000.
13. Paul Wieczorek
Wieczorek did not file any donations for the most recent filing period.
City Planning Commissioner Diane Trautman and former City Council candidate Mark Hershey also filed contributions for 2013, but neither resident is running for council.
