“The car was reported stolen two days ago,” said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“There was a vehicle pursuit for less than 15 seconds,” Hershey said. “The suspect drove down Sand Canyon, blew out a couple tires and abandoned the car in the middle of the road.”
There were several witnesses who lived in the area and helped deputies find the suspect, Hershey said.
“Officers found the car with several people pointing in the direction of where the suspect ran,” he said.
Deputies arrested the suspect at 12:30 p.m. without incident.
An ambulance, as well as paramedics and other firefighters, were called to the scene for possible injuries to the subject, although they did not treat him.
The officials were giving medical attention to the suspect to make sure he was not injured during the stop.
He was escorted to the hospital in the back of a Sheriff’s Station patrol car.
“He is a pretty good runner, but not good enough,” Hershey said.
Sheriff’s Station officials did not have the name of the suspect because he had not yet been booked.
He is expected to be charged with vehicle theft when he is booked later this afternoon.
