Shaye Nicole Appleton, of Cleburne, Texas,  and Adrian Dupree Anderson, of Crowley, are being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of a $35,000 bond, after a car they were in allegedly contained four pounds of marijuana.

On Wednesday at approximately noon, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Parks Bureau stopped a woman who was driving a car adjacent to Castaic Lake Park for a traffic violation.

“There were problems with the registration,” said Deputy Paul Schrader, a public information officer for the Parks Bureau. “(Four pounds of marijuana) does smell, but my understanding is that that was not the initial reason for looking.”

During the traffic stop, deputies discovered that a man in the car  was on probation in Texas for a narcotics violation.

“They started investigating the information about the vehicle to make sure it did belong to them, and in the process of that investigation, they found this marijuana.”

After further investigation, it was determined that both suspects were in possession of four baggies that contained marijuana, Schrader said.

The approximate weight of the marijuana was four pounds, and the street value is $18,000, he added.

Both the driver and passenger were immediately arrested and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Castaic Lake Park is located at 32132 Ridge Route Road Castaic.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departments Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks, according to a Parks Bureau statement.
