Demarie Rashad Mackey, 23, of Palmdale, pleaded not guilty Wednesday at Los Angeles Superior Court in San Fernando, according to a court official.

Mackey was booked on one count of armed robbery, and other counts are pending an inter-agency investigation with another county, according to Detective Mike Staley of the Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Bureau.

“He got caught red-handed on this one, and we know that he’s committed at least two others,” Staley said.

He is currently being held on a no-bail warrant because he was on parole at the time of his arrest.

Mackey was arrested Saturday. Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop of a red Camry shortly after the bank robbery.

He did not resist arrest, according to detectives. He is not believed to be affiliated with any gang, Staley said.

Mackey's listed as a day laborer on Sheriff's Department arrest records.

Detectives believe the suspect walked into a Bank of America location in Newhall with a handgun and a stocking over his head, according to initial reports.

The suspect was booked on a 211 charge for allegedly robbing the Bank of America on the corner of Valley Street and Lyons Avenue at 10:40 a.m. at gunpoint, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“He took a small unknown amount of cash from the bank and he fled in a red (Toyota) Camry,” Bryski said.

Earlier reports of the suspect changing cars are inaccurate, Bryski said.

The suspect was spotted heading northbound on Highway 14 and pulled over by deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in the Camry he allegedly was seen driving.

He was stopped near the Sand Canyon Road exit of Highway 14.

“We thought he might have changed cars,” he said.

The man is believed to have acted alone, Bryski said, and no other suspects are being sought for the crime at this time.

The suspect was in custody by 11 a.m., Bryski said.

He is due back in court in July.
