Wendy LanghansIn March, the City of Santa Clarita asked members of the community to submit their favorite photographs of life in our valley for the Spring Photo Contest.

This Spring, first place went to KHTS’ own Wendy Langhans and her picture of a great egret on Bridgeport Lake. Langhans is the author of the weekly “SCV Outdoor Report” on hometownstation.com.

Langhans wasn’t planning on entering a contest, but she is often on the lookout for pictures that she can use with her articles.

“Oftentimes it’s something I happen to catch,” she said. “I was just walking, and I had my camera with me, and the bird was there.”

Even once she entered the contest, Langhans didn’t expect to win.

“I also knew that there was a photo contest,” she said. “I thought I’m just going to send them the photo, because maybe they’ll be able to use it for something, so I was surprised when I got the email.”

While Langhans was pleased with the recognition, she said she’ll only enter contests in the future if she has a good picture.

I don’t do this to enter contests,” she said.

The City holds photo contests quarterly, and submissions for the summer contest due June 30. Visit the City’s website for more information and their Flickr page to see this quarter’s photo entries.
