Ninth Annual Leaders Of Character Recognition Dinner

The Boy Scouts of America, Bill Hart District officials will honor six Santa Clarita Valley residents this October with the annual Leaders of Character award due to their contributions to the community and examples of character.

The six honorees were selected by a 12-member committee. The three couples are Arif and Pam Halaby, Michael and Mary Delorenzo and Scott and Vanessa Wilk.

The ninth annual Leaders of Character recognition dinner will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Valencia at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.

Arif Halaby is the founder and CEO of Total Financial Solutions in Newhall, which offers financial advice, retirement planning, debt counseling and a variety of seminars.

The Halabys have been long-time scouters, said Ransom Boynton, Bill Hart District executive.

Scott Wilk, state assemblyman for the 38th District, and his wife Vanessa have lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for years. Boynton said that the Bill Hart District is happy to have the support of the Wilks.

Scott Wilk said that both he and his wife are extremely honored. Scott and Vanessa Wilk have been “very active in the community (Santa Clarita) for a long time” said Wilk.

Two more honorees include Michael and Mary Delorenzo are owners of Santa Clarita Studios, a full service, independent studio featuring 10 sound stages, production center and screening room.

Boynton praised the Delorenzos' efforts to keep the film industry in the SCV. “They have been bringing a lot of good commerce to our valley for a number of years,” he said.

Sue Reynolds of the William S. Hart Union High School District will emcee the recognition dinner. Tickets are $150 per person and will be for sale until October 3.

A number of sponsorship opportunities are available, sponsors will be accepted until September 30.

“All of the proceeds from this event will be donated directly to the scouting organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley,” Boynton said.

The Bill Hart District of the Boy Scouts of America serves 926 Cub Scouts, 1,011 Boy Scouts and 264 Venture Scouts in Agua Dulce, Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch, Valencia and Val Verde.
