Michael Neighbors, 46, of Newhall, was arrested at his residence on the 24500 block of Valley Street in Newhall, where deputies said they found heroin, both in black tar and powdered forms, methamphetamine, and marijuana, and a crossbow with metal tipped bolts.

“The operation is part of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's ongoing proactive efforts to ensure that convicted criminals living in the Santa Clarita Valley are in compliance with the terms and conditions of their probation after release from jail,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Neighbors was released from jail early under the state’s AB 109, Post Release Community Supervision program.

The effort involved deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Prevention Unit, probation officers and deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Impact Team, which worked together to conduct multiple parole and probation checks during the early morning hours.

During a subsequent compliance check of the residence, numerous items of contraband were recovered, including narcotics paraphernalia, such as a digital scale and numerous glass methamphetamine pipes.

Neighbors was subsequently arrested by Santa Clarita Valley CPU deputies for possession of various types of controlled substances for the purpose of sales and for being in violation of the terms of his parole.

He is currently being held in custody at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station without bail.

“It is the goal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to assist post release supervised persons in becoming viable members of society,” Dubin said. “To do this, new programs are being developed and implemented and resources allocated or realigned.”

Resource guides are available at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, and quarterly life skills courses are being developed to provide offenders with the educational tools, employment resources and training to reintegrate into society and reduce recidivism, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

These types of operations and others just like it will continue throughout the year to ensure that convicted criminals remain in compliance.

“Criminals who choose to break the law and are caught will be arrested,” the statement read.
