Newhall Land was required to build Class-1 bike paths as a condition of approval for its West Creek subdivision and deed the paths over to the county, according to a report from county Public Works Director Gail Farber.

Newhall Land built the bike paths, but the county does not have a good way to keep them clean.

To get the bike paths off Newhall Land’s books and onto the county’s, the company agreed to donate $100,290.34 so the county could go out and buy a mini air street sweeper. Tuesday’s board action would require Public Works to buy a sweeper with the donated funds.

Regular-sized street sweepers are too big for bike paths and the county does not have a miniature version that is available for use in Santa Clarita Valley.
