Art Slam featured all things cinema related, including projectors playing original films with live accompaniment, courtesy of a traveling film tent.

Thursday night’s special showing was of “The Goonies”, which was projected on a big screen set up in a usually empty lot.

The event spread out for blocks and supplied free entertainment for all ages.

Animated shorts and silent films were being screened in addition to traditional films.

Sound effects artist Tony “Sparx” Palermo also had a table set up at Art Slam, ready to share his art with passersby.

“Sometimes, when filming a movie, you don’t get a good enough sound,” said Palermo. “That’s where sound effects come into play.”

The concept of Art Slam is to step away from labels and develop a new art event for the City of Santa Clarita.
