Castaic Animal Care CenterAt their weekly meeting on Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a budget and project revision for the new buildings.

The agenda item suggested increasing the budget from $1,860,000 to $2,900,000, adding $1.04 million.

The the project was initially approved on February 14, 2012, and the revised plan allows for a 1,752-square-foot spay/neuter clinic building and the installation of a 1,440-square-foot modular administration building.

The increased budget was suggested after a geotechnical investigation discovered that the soil was unsafe to build on. In the event of an earthquake, the proposed buildings would be at risk without compaction grouting, a method of injecting grout into the soil under pressure.

Eight trees also need to be removed to maintain a fuel clearance around the site.
