Santa Clarita business leader and CEO of Total Financial Solutions, Arif Halaby served with the LAPD for nearly 11 years and is now a board member for the Mission Community Police Council.

The money raised through this event and other fundraising efforts by the Council goes to support youth programs and community events put on by the Mission Community Police Station.

The most successful of these fundraisers raised nearly $15,000, said Melanie McShane, president of the MCPC.

One of the programs supported by these funds is the Cadet Program, open to children 13-21 years old. Cadets participate in police station activities, perform community service and attend cadet meetings.

The cosponsor of the event this year is MOTORGOSPEL Ministries, a faith-based racing club.

Their mission is to “love God, love our neighbors and make a joyful noise with the John 3:16 race car,” according to their website.

A number of sponsorships, between $1,000 and $100, are available for those who want to participate in the event, but members of the community can also come watch the races for free.

Drivers must be 18 years or older to race.

Previous years have attracted about 80 racers, both civilians and police officers, McShane said.
