Artwork inspired by these ten women will be on display at the event for local officials, family, friends and the community to view.

Guests will also learn the stories of each of the honorees. One artist will take home the grand prize for the best visual depiction.

Single Mothers Outreach Executive Director DaAnne Smith said that the main purpose of the event is to tell the stories of the honorees.

“There are a lot of women in this town that have amazing stories of empowerment–empowering themselves or people who have empowered others,” she said. “…I’ve heard so many beautiful stories of women who have overcome amazing adversity.”

Single Mothers Outreach solicits nominations from the community and previous honorees.

Buttelman said that she was surprised to be chosen.

“I’m extremely honored to be selected by Single Mothers Outreach as one of their honorees this year,” she said. “I think single mother’s outreach is a wonderful organization that does so much for single parents in the Santa Clarita Valley.”

The artwork is also meant to be an integral part of telling each woman’s story.

“We combined it with art,” Smith said, “because we wanted to make it as much a visual experience as a spoken experience.”

Buttelman said that she has enjoyed working with her artist to create the piece that will be unveiled at the event.

“The artist that they assigned to me, Jennifer Parker, is just a wonderfully talented artist,” she said, “and it’s been a lot of fun to work with her.”

The Empowering heARTS Facebook page described Buttelman as “the voice of our nonprofits and community organizations and tells our stories accurately and effectively… As a working woman, mom and volunteer, she truly understands the importance of a supportive community. She’s been a consistent presence in an ever changing industry and has made a huge imprint on our valley.”

Tickets to the event are $65 per person, $100 per couple, and $15 per child. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
