A press conference followed at the Palmdale Boys and Girls Club from 3:15 – 4 p.m.
“I was talking about the Washington impact of sequestration and what it will do to our armed forces,” said Congressman Buck McKeon, R-Santa Clarita.
“California will be hit the hardest. There are estimates that we could lose a half-million jobs — direct and indirect over the next year or two — just in California alone,” McKeon said.
The event was a chance to tour Aerowire Technical Services’ facilities and meet with employees and owner, Velma Searcy to gain a better understanding of how proposed sequestration cuts will devastate local communities, industries, businesses and families.
The tour will run from 2:15 – 3:00 p.m.
Aerowire Technical Services is a minority woman owned small business in Lancaster, California focused on providing contract manufacturing services in the avionics and wire/cable fabrication industry.
The principles in the company have over 30 years experience in the aerospace electrical manufacturing industry, and bring a customer focus to the aerospace market that many find unique and refreshing. Aerowire’s manufacturing capabilities, program management, and inventory are fully integrated to provide maximum customer satisfaction.
Following the tour of Aerowire Technical Services, leaders from throughout the region addressed the oft-overlooked impact of sequestration, and called on Washington D.C. to consider the health and vitality of our communities, economy, and businesses as the debate continues over how to create a fiscally-sound, long-term budget.
Speakers included McKeon; L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich; state Sen. Steve Knight and Major Gen. Kenneally, executive director, Southwest Defense Alliance.
