Community Development Commission Officials Invite Residents

County officials are hosting a series of meetings seeking input from their residents in developing the county’s annual action plan, starting Sept. 9-23, according to Community Development Commission officials.

The 2015-16 action plan will disperse approximately $30 million in housing and community development funds, and it describes proposed funding activities, which can include, for example, childcare programs, services for senior citizens, homebuyer assistance and home repair programs, homeless services, low interest business loans, graffiti removal and street and sewer repairs.

The approximate $30 million in funds originate from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which requires the action plan. The funds are broken down into the following three categories:

 – Approximately $21 million from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, which funds a variety of services in low- and moderate-income communities.  Funding is contingent upon Congressional approval and, as the CDBG Program has experienced significant funding reductions since 2002, future funding levels are uncertain at this time;

 – Over $6.6 million from the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which supplies funds for housing rehabilitation, first-time homebuyer programs, and the construction of housing for low- and moderate-income households; and

 – Over $1.7 million from the Emergency Solutions Grant Program that provides street outreach, emergency shelter, and homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing.County Of Los Angeles

The five community meetings will solicit input from residents, community organizations and local interest groups.  Attendees will be asked to complete the “CDC Residents Survey,” which is also available on the CDC website atwww.lacdc.org.  The county will then use that input in developing the Action Plan.

The list of meetings and a diagram that presents the action plan planning cycle are shown on the following pages.  For additional information on the meetings, please contact Brian Talbot, Environmental and Planning Specialist, at (626) 586-1752.

Individuals unable to attend the community meetings may submit written comments through Thursday, October 23, 2014, to Raymond Webster, Development Specialist, via e-mail at Raymond.Webster@lacdc.org, by fax (626) 943-3838, or mail (postmarked by October 23, 2014) to the Community Development Commission of the County of Los Angeles, Community Development Division-Grants Management Unit, 700 W.
