Local Producer’s New Movie “Grace Unplugged” To Be Released October

Santa Clarita producer and restaurant owner Russ Rice’s newest film “Grace Unplugged” is set to release in theaters Oct. 4.

“Grace Unplugged” stars Amanda “AJ” Michalka as 18-year old Christian singer/songwiter Grace Rose Trey, who plays guitar and leads worship with her father, Johnny, played by James Denton.

Her father is a former rock star who has left his career as a secular musician behind to lead worship at their small-town Alabama church.

Grace leaves her home to travel to Los Angeles and pursue her music career, but faces a struggle as she begins to lose her Christian faith.

Rice’s other productions include “No Greater Love,” “It Really Happened: The Flight of the Apollo 11,” “Smuggler’s Ransom” and “SP Live.”

In response to the people who have already seen the movie “Grace Unplugged”, the producer took to the movie’s Facebook page to share his reaction.

“…I have traveled around the country meeting some of you,” writes Rice, “and seeing how the Lord is using ‘Grace Unplugged’ to already minister to people we are very humbled and thankful for God’s grace to us on this film.”

Besides being a local movie producer, Rice gained the title of restaurant manager after his family took over Athena’s Restaurant in Canyon Country in 2010.

The Greek restaurant features traditional Gyro, as well as pizza and rotisserie.

Rice admitted in 2010 to be new to the food management business, but he noticed similarities between this and his job as a movie producer.

On the “Grace Unplugged” official Facebook page, Rice says to “make your plans now to bring your entire church on opening weekend in theaters nationwide.”
