His music is characterized by its delicate instrumentals, soft harmonies adding gravity to his emotionally charged lyrics strongly reflective of folk virtuosos Danny Malone and indie duo the Milk Carton Kids.

Dobies has beared comparisons to English folk outfit Mumford and Sons, but insists that he does not really understand it.

His emotionally evocative arrangements and vulnerable lyrics demonstrates a distinguishing quality and an accessibility that sets him apart from most bands. There is a hushed intimacy to his music and it’s filled with ruminations of past relationships.

Dobies’ freshman EP entitled “The Long Hugs” includes favorites, such as “Only with You” and “So Many Voices.”

The EP deals with topics such as relationships and breakups.

On KHTS AM 1220’s very own Friday Matinee with George Cummings and T. Katz,  Dobies jokingly dubbed himself the “Taylor Swift of Santa Clarita,” due to his tendency to write a song about every relationship he has ever been in.

His upcoming follow-up EP with new material, however, is a solo effort pertaining to being in a quarter-life crisis in your twenties.

“Most of the content on this upcoming EP deals with that lost feeling, that I’m not sure that everybody gets… It’s a feeling you tend to feel generally when you’re in the middle of your twenties. There’s so many decisions to make such as  I could travel or I could make money because I want to have a family, but then there’s doubts like what if I don’t find the right person?” said Dobies.

“There’s all this pressure not to make that wrong step, but you mess up more than you’d like to[laughs].”

His willingness to be put himself out there with the emotionally charged, relatable content of his songs is the magnetic quality that draws the Santa Clarita community to his music.

Emotionally arresting and well-crafted, his music is colored with raw, relatable and romantic elements.

“No one has ever said that my music says too much. Most of the time, people can relate and appreciate the honesty, thankfully [laughs]. Most people have told me, ‘Thank you for that. That’s exactly the way I feel.’ And then you think to yourself, ‘Hey, I guess I’m not the only one,” said Dobies.

“That’s the coolest part about it. Being able to connect with people. It’s not about me. It’s about everyone having a good time or feeling something at the end of the day,’” according to Dobies’ statement.
