KHTS Local Artist Spotlight: Magni5

Hearing the powerful vocals of Elisha Soronio in her rendition of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You,” it’s clear Magni5’s lead singer has a timeless quality to her voice.

However, hearing lead guitarist Marco Soronio joke about playing “Guitar Hero” gives insight into these talented artists’ real age.

Magni5 is an inimitable local Santa Clarita band that is expected to be featured on The KHTS “Friday Matinee” with George Cummings on Friday, June 21.

They are well-versed in covering rock ‘n’ roll classics, ranging from rock virtuosos Led Zeppelin to hard rock legends, such as AC/DC. However, it so happens each member is about half the age of each member of these rock legends when these classic rock bands released their first singles.

This SCV band consists of 14-year-old lead vocalist and pianist Elisha Soronio; 12-year-old lead guitarist Marco Soronio; 12-year-old Jason Leopold on bass; 11-year-old guitarist and singer Robin Thompson; and 11-year-old Logan Sheppard on drums.

However, although they precociously navigate through rock classics, they are way more than just a conventional rock cover band.

They branch out into a wider musical territory like Adele and Alicia Keys, and transition between the two genres with as much ease.

Magni5 members execute each song with an evolving boldness and confidence.

It is noticeable that once they start playing, they are seized by the music and are fully consumed and dedicated to their brimming enthusiasm for the music they are playing.

Elisha Soronio’s voice has a wide vocal range and is ostentatious and bold as it gets and is accompanied with a resonating vibrato.

Marco Soronio’s guitar solo in their rendition of Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” is impressive with his notable guitar slides that adds so much texture to the illustrious classic.

Thompson’s notable enthusiasm and passion is refreshing with his audacious tendency to lift his guitar as soon as the song builds up.

Leopold revives each song with his powerful pick driven clean sounds executed with so much energy.

Additionally, Sheppard’s contribution to each song with his drum solos fully showcases his mature drumming ability.

Each member uniquely dons an eclectic vintage band shirt with their classic roll ‘n’ roll idol ranging from Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart  to the cover of the third installment of  Led Zeppelin studio albums demonstrating they are bona fide aficionados of the genre.

It is undeniable this group exudes on-stage charisma and has the ability compel their audience in their stage presence and nature of performance.

They will be featured on The KHTS “Friday Matinee” at 12:30 p.m. with George Cummings on Friday, June 21.
