Tim Farmer as ClarenceThomas M. Sharkey’s musical version of the holiday classic tells the story of dedicated son, husband and father George Bailey, who often seems to suffer for doing the right thing. When driven to despair on Christmas Eve, he is saved by his bumbling, yet clever guardian angel Clarence.

The Sanctuary’s production starred Dan Sachoff as George Bailey, Tim Farmer as Clarence and Samantha Dorosh as George’s wife Mary Hatch.

Many members of the cast and crew have years of experience in stage or television acting.

Farmer has performed on Broadway in “Poor Murderer” and “The Inspector General,” as well as many other productions through the Actors Co-op in Hollywood.

Sachoff has had roles in such popular television shows as “West Wing,” “Will and Grace” and “Scrubs.”

Director Mark Henderson, also a member of the Actors Co-op, has received awards for productions including “The Elephant Man,” “The Enchanted Cottage” and “Into the Woods.”

Dan Sachoff as George BaileySenior Pastor Marty Walker said that The Sanctuary picked “It’s a Wonderful Life,” as their Christmas production, because of it’s widespread appeal.

“There are so many great Christmas stories out there… ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is one of those classics,” Walker said. “It’s my personal all time favorite movie across the board.”

Sachoff said that while he has never done a Christmas production like “It’s a Wonderful Life” before, he was excited for the unique opportunity.

“It has the potential to reach all kinds of people,” he said. “…It’s fun to do something on stage, because I’ve done TV for a long time.”

On Saturday night, Sharkey’s widow, Felicia Sharkey attended the play.

Walker said that she had not been able to see a production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” in many years.

“She was crying after every number,” Sachoff said. “It was touching, and it was great for us to get to honor her and her husband’s memory.”

“It’s a Wonderful Life,” will be playing at The Sanctuary next weekend, on Dec. 20, 21, and 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be ordered online, here.

Walker called the play “our gift to the community this Christmas.”
