The event took place from 10 a.m to 2 p.m and was hosted by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in partnership with the Action Family Foundation, KHTS AM-1220 and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s department.
Cary Quashen, Chief Executive Office for the Action Family Foundation, said he was proud of the events success and happy to help remove these drugs from circulation.
“We are glad to get these drugs out of medicine cabinets and out of the reach of children,” Quashen said. “People are excited about the collection and have told us how they keep a bag set aside for events like this.”

The SCV Drug Takeback is a bi-annual event and Saturday’s collection marked the 8th time it has taken place here in Santa Clarita.
Saturday’s event was part of a nationwide drug collection effort, and everything gathered today at Henry Mayo will be destroyed on Monday in Long Beach, said a representative from the Drug Enforcement Agency.
“All the drugs are going to the incinerator on Monday,” said the DEA representative. “People are smart enough to not throw away or flush old drugs down the toilet. This event allows them to get rid of these drugs in a safe way. [Henry Mayo] is doing a really good deed by hosting the event.”
