Henry Mayo Receives Gift From Disney To Decorate ER Waiting Room
Henry Mayo Hospital recently received a $104,000 gift from the Walt Disney Company to decorate the children's area of their ER waiting room.
Children who visit the Emergency Room at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital will notice some changes in the coming months. They might see some of their favorite Disney characters featured in artwork around the waiting room, thanks to a $104,000 gift from The Walt Disney Company.

The check was recently presented to Diana Vose, president of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation, and Vivian Zinn, director of the Emergency Department. It was the largest donation ever made to Henry Mayo by Disney.
“Disney has been an important supporter of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital,” Vose said in a press release. “Corporate philanthropy is essential in order to assist our hospital (in acquiring) the most updated equipment and technology. Disney’s gift demonstrates its continued commitment to the health and well-being of our community.”
The Disney-themed art is just one part of the ER waiting room remodel, which started when the hospital invited medical consulting firm Blue Jay to evaluate the ER’s efficiency and patient satisfaction two years ago.

Patients are now met by a nurse when they first enter the ER, decreasing wait times between arrival and seeing a doctor. ER wait times are posted live on the hospital’s website.
The remodel is scheduled to be completed in September, and will feature an updated children’s area, a new “Nurse First” workstation, a new sitting area and a new security desk.
Over the last several years, the hospital has received accreditation to treat some of the most common, life-threatening emergency conditions: heart attack and stroke.
In 2010, the hospital was certified by the Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
And then in 2013, they were approved for a STEMI accreditation by the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency.

But the Disney gift focuses on what a Henry Mayo press release calls “hospital’s most vulnerable and precious patients”--children.
“Disney proudly celebrates the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation’s steadfast efforts to enhance healthcare delivery for children and families in Santa Clarita Valley,” said Kevin Callahan in a press release. Callahan is Disney’s corporate citizenship vice president of community and engagement.
“Together, our shared belief in the power of imagination and creativity has strengthened the community,” he said, “and provided a transformational sense of comfort and healing to families when they need it most.”
