Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills and Providence Tarzana Medical Center were recognized with Healthgrades’ 2014 Women’s Health Excellence Achievement Award.
The award recognizes hospitals for high scores among the nation’s full-service medical centers as well as for high advances in women’s cardiovascular care, bone and joint health. The Providence medical centers ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for women’s health care.
Women who choose to get medical treatment at a Healthgrades Women’s Excellence Awarded hospital have a lower risk of dying due to eight heart-related conditions and procedures, according to a Providence press release. They also face a lower risk of complications in seven orthopedic and vascular procedures.
Providence Saint John’s Health Center has ranked among the top 5 percent in the nation for two consecutive years and has been the recipient of Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Achievement Award for six successive years.
Hospitals who have received the top patient safety award demonstrated better than expected performance in providing safety for Medicare patients, according to the press release.
The release also claimed that if every hospital in the nation followed Patient Safety and Women’s Health standards from Healthgrades, 266,813 patient safety events could have been avoided, about 22,737 women’s lives could have been saved and 30,577 in-hospital complications could have been avoided.
