Hart School District To Host Third Annual College and Career Fair

Unsure where to go after high school or the process it takes to apply and be accepted at colleges and universities? The Hart School District is hosting their 3rd Annual College and Career Fair on Wednesday, September 11th from 6-9 P.M. at the Valencia Hyatt Regency.

The Fair is held to assist students in guiding future decisions, whether it be getting a college education or focusing on a career path.

Many of the graduating seniors are college bound but tend to only consider California schools.

“I try and provide a small sampling of out-of-state options for students to explore,” claims Janis Fiock, District Career Advisor and planner of the College and Career Fair. “Also, very important to our district’s focus is the opportunity to provide alternative post-secondary options for students not considering college…the majority of good paying jobs require skilled workers with some type of post-secondary training.”

Last year the event had more than 3,000 attendees. The students are invited from the schools in the district as well as private, charter, or home-schools. The event is beneficial to juniors and seniors in high school along with their parents to learn about the options our students have after graduation.

The Hart District is known for its high-performing students. Their goal is to prepare all students for post-high school education. The Fair includes a variety of education options for all students like universities, community colleges, career technical education programs, and apprenticeship programs.

The program will include presentations on financial aid, community college programs and transfers, private colleges and universities, CSU and UC admissions, an understanding of the A-G requirements for CSU and UC admissions, and career readiness.  These presentations have proven to be very valuable to the attendees in the past.

There will be a broad representation of schools with admissions representatives from two and four-year California colleges and universities, career colleges, and out-of-state schools. These representatives from the schools are there with paperwork for more information and even answer questions that students may have.

“The College and Career Fair will represent every level of post-secondary education,” according to Dave LeBarron, Director of Curriculum and Assessment for the Hart School District. “If you are a student pursuing a job after high school, you need to attend the fair.”

Due to the success of the previous two College and Career Fairs, they are encouraging all students in attendance to gain a greater understanding of the options that their future holds. The Hart District College and Career Fair has been very informative and helpful to students in the past and is highly recommended.
