FastFrame Offers Tips On How To Best Display Gallery Artwork

Proper framing can mean the difference between artwork that sells and artwork that remains on the gallery wall, according to Randy Burzynski, owner of FastFrame on Valencia Boulevard in Valencia.

Burzynski and his wife Rose-Marie Longan will give a presentation at the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association meeting on Monday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m., at Barnes and Noble in Valencia.

Burzynski and Longan will speak to artists and collectors on the importance of framing artwork, especially for presentation and marketing. Framing caters to the customer who wants to display their art purchase right away.

“Quite a number of artists feel that it’s easier or better for them to just hang or mat their pieces,” Burzynski said, “and then show them that way, allowing the individual who purchases that piece to go and frame it to their likes and dislikes. The problem there is the fact that, it being an emotional purchase, …you want to hang it up and you want to enjoy it on the wall.”

The type of frame used to best display a work of art also depends on what kind of piece it is.

“A lot of it has to do with the type of format–black and white photography versus color photography, oil painting versus pastels or pencil drawings,” Burzynski said. “We at FastFrame like to look at each piece individually.”

The SCAA hopes to prepare artists for the annual Art Classic Gala upcoming in October. At the meeting, they will also review rules, guidelines and application process, as well as field questions.

“Our members submit their finest pieces for this professionally judged show. So, having the best visual appearance–framing, etc.–may be a key to winning an award,” said Laurie Morgan, past SCAA president. “Also, knowing the rules and guidelines in advance makes it less stressful for the artists.”

The meeting is free and open to the public. The SCAA suggests guests come early and expect standing room only by 6:30.
