“We are OK, but it’s still very, very, very hard,” said Yuri Acero, a cousin of crash victim Felicia Martinez.
Martinez and her husband, Ivan Ramirez, both 31 years old, were driving July 22 with their daughter Violeta Martinez on the northbound side of Highway 14, where they were killed when their car struck a metal pole.
Ramirez was transported to the Palmdale Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, according to the report. Martinez succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Violeta Martinez, the daughter of the crash victims has been in the care of doctors at the LAC+USC Medical Center in Los Angeles for the past week.

“(Violeta) had a broken leg and had surgery yesterday but I believe she’s stable,” Acero said. “She has a couple cuts and stitches but she’s good.”
Both sets of grandparents are staying with the toddler at the hospital and numerous family members have come to visit her, Acero said. Hospital officials had to move Martinez to a larger room to fit all of her visitors.

“With such a tragic and sudden passing, we were not prepared for the funeral cost,” Acero said. “The (GoFundMe account) will pay for the funeral and anything (Violeta) may need. We’re hoping that we can get her settled with a little bit, at least for a couple years and to make it easier on the family member who will raise her on their own.”

More than 80 people have donated $4,908 to the GoFundMe account. The goal is to raise $5,000, but the family may raise it to put away more money for Martinez, Acero said.
The viewing for Violeta Martinez’s parents will be on July 31. A mass will follow Friday and Ramirez’s body will be buried in the San Fernando Valley. Felicia Martinez’s body will taken to Jalisco, Mexico with Martinez’s parents. Only family and friends will be attending the ceremony.
The 2014 Ford Focus traveling northbound on Highway 14, north of Santiago Road, left the road and struck a guardrail off the left side of the road and then struck a large metal pole next to the rail, according to the CHP crash report.
“We’ve always been a very close family, so we always go to each other for support,” Acero said. “Definitely all of our family has come together after this tragedy.”
