Santa Clarita city officials are planning to host the 9th Annual Youth Grove Evening of Remembrance in September at Central Park.

The event is set for Sept. 10 and is set to begin with the first-ever Walk of Remembrance at 6:45 p.m.with the Evening of Remembrance at 7:15 p.m. to follow.

“Motor vehicle collisions remain the number one cause of death for teens, with texting and driving accounting for more than 3,000 teen fatalities each year,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste. “The city of Santa Clarita and the Blue Ribbon Task Force host the annual Youth Grove Evening of Remembrance to honor the young Santa Clarita lives lost due to traffic-related incidents, and remind the entire community about the importance of being safe, sober and focused behind the wheel.”
Youth ages 24 and under who have lost their lives in traffic-related incident are honored at the annual Youth Grove Evening of Remembrance. Officials use the event as “a powerful reminder about the importance of safe driving,” according to the news release.

City officials have invited the entire community to participate in the event.
The Walk of Remembrance “is another way to raise awareness. Particpants will be walking and carrying different signs and banners to help people pledge to drive safely and responsibly,” said Janine Prado, community sservices coordinator for the city of Santa Clarita.
City of Santa Clarita and the Blue Ribbon Task Force officials created the Santa Clarita Youth Grove in 2005.
The half-acre memorial has 91 individual pillars, each with a plaque bearing the name of a young life lost in a traffic-related incident, according to the news release. The pillars surround a central monument urging the community to “Know More” about safe driving habits and to pledge that “No More” young lives will be lost behind the wheel.
