SCV Youth Project “Comics For The Cause” SCV Youth Project Comics For the Cause

When:  Tuesday, September 23, 6pm for the VIP Pre-Party, doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7:30pm

Details: The SCV Youth Project is holding their 3rd Annual “Comics For The Cause” charity event.  Annabell Gurwitch, author of “I See You Made An Effort” will take on Master of Ceremonies duties.  The evening features comedy from Cathy Ladman from HBO, The Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and The Tonight Show;  Ahmed Ahmed of Sullivan & Son, Weeds, Swingers and Iron Man; and Bryan Callen of MADtv, Chelsea Lately, and Letterman.  More information on the event and the SCV Youth Project, plus tickets are available by calling 661-257-9688 (257-youth) or online.

City Of Santa Clarita “River Rally Clean-up & Environmental Expo”

When:  Saturday, September 20 from 8am-11am
Where:  Wiley Canyon Road, off the Via Princessa Bridge
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita is hosting the 20th annual “River Rally Clean Up & Environmental Expo.”  “Be part of the solution for a better environment by helping to preserve the river’s natural beauty and variety of wildlife.”  Pre-registration is required.  All River Rally participants are asked to wear closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and appropriate clothing for walking in the riverbed.  Gloves, bags and refreshments will be provided.  There is even a commemorative giveaway, while supplies last.  The Environmental Expo features displays on recycling, air quality, pollution prevention, water quality, open space preservation and wildlife conservation.  More information and registration is available by calling 661-284-1415 or online.  

Agua Dulce Country Fair

When:  Saturday, September 20 from 4pm-midnight
Where:  Agua Dulce Women’s Club, 33201 Agua Dulce Canyon Road, Agua Dulce
Details:  The Agua Dulce Country Fair has the theme “Love-A-Fair.”  The Fair starts with a parade  tractor brigades, aging beauty queen floats, camels, plus regular entries.  The Parade has a humorous side with tractor brigades, aging beauty queen floats, and even camels.  Win homemade treats at the Cake Walk, test your balance with Giant Jenga, try your skills at Chicken Splat Checkers, take on opponents at the Silly String Wars, Jalapeno Holler, and challenge Lady Luck on the Wheel of Fortune. Check out the Chili Cookoff, Beer Garden and Cigar Booth.   The music starts at 4:30pm with five bands performing through the evening.  Vendors have a variety of shopping.  Admission is $5.  All proceeds go back into the community.  More information and direction are available online.  

SCV Senior Center “Humorous Stories From Alaska And Beyond”

Where:  SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, Newhall

Domestic Violence Center “Clothesline Project”Domestic Violence Center of SCV

When:  Saturday, September 20 from 11am-2pm
Where:  Savia Center, 23780 Newhall Avenue, Newhall
Details:  The Domestic Violence Center SCV is holding “Clothesline Project.”  The Clothesline Project is a national project to bring a visual display of awareness about violence against women.  The Domestic Violence Center SCV is participating for the first time to help survivors express themselves as part of the healing process and to educate, break the silence and bear witness.  Bring a shirt to decorate.  Each color shirt reflects the form of abuse and whether the victim survived the abuse they experience.  White represents women who died because of violence; yellow or beige represents battered of assaulted women; red, pink and orange are for survivors of rape and sexually assaulted; blue and green represent survivors of incest and sexual abuse; purple or lavender represent women attached because of their sexual orientation; and black if for women attacked for political reasons.  More information on the Domestic Violence Center SCV and the Clothesline Project are available by calling 661-259-8175 or online

Circle of HopeCircle Of Hope “Bunco For Hope”

When:  Sunday, September 21 from 12:30-5pm
Where:  Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive at McBean Parkway, Valencia
Details:  Come to the Fourth Annual “Bunco For Hope” Tournament to benefit Circle of Hope sponsored by MOMS Club of Castaic.  Besides games of bunco, the afternoon includes a champagne toast, lunch, dessert, and prizes.  Registration and lunch starts at 12:30pm and games start at 2pm.  Tickets are $45 and can be purchased online.

SCV Music Festival
When:  Friday, September 26 doors opening at 6pm; Saturday, September 27 opening at noon
Where: Valencia Country Club, 27330 Tourney Road, Valencia 
Details:  The SCV Music Festival is ready to start the music playing in Santa Clarita. “The SCV Music Festival showcases renowned national and international recording artists, bringing a topnotch musical festival experience to the SCV.”  Headliner for Friday is country music artist Aaron Tippin.  His debut single, “You’ve Got to Stand For Something” and his many trips to Iraq and Afghanistan has cemented his standing with country music fans and the U.S. military.  Headliner for Saturday is Blue Oyster Cult is an American rock band known for their hard rock and heavy metal songs.  The SCV Music Festival will be held outdoors, rain-or-shine.  Read more on the KHTS website: Fifth Annual Santa Clarita Music Festival Returning To Valencia. More information and tickets are available online.  

Circus Vargas
When: September 26 through September 29, see times below
Where:  Westfield Valencia Town Center – Sears’s end of the mall parking lot
Details:  The Big One is Back, Circus Vargas, Circus Vargas.  The producers of Circus Vargas promise a show with more magic and excitement than ever before.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Circus Vargas In Santa Clarita At Valencia Town Center Sept. 26.  Children can meet and perform with the cast of Magikaria for 30 minutes before the show.  KHTS’ own Kyle “The Jellyman” Jellings will be guest Ringmaster on Saturday at the 4pm show.   Show dates:  Friday, September 26 at 4:30pm and 7:30pm;  Saturday, September 27 at 1pm, 4pm and 7:30pm;  Sunday, September 28 at 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm;  Monday, September 29 at 7pm.  Tickets are available at the box office (opens September 25), by calling 877-468-3861 or online.   

Action Family Foundation “SCV Drug Takeback”Action Family Foundation
When:  Saturday, September 27 from 10am-2pm
Where:  Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, 23845 McBean Parkway, Valencia
Details:   Action Family Foundation in partnership with Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is again holding “SCV Drug Takeback.”  This is an opportunity to safely dispose of unused prescriptions, unwanted and unused drugs, and expired medications.  You don’t even have to get out of your car just use the parking lot turnaround.  No questions are asked, just make use of this takeback.  More information on the takeback and Action Family Foundation is available online.  

Family Promise “Box City”
When:  Saturday, September 27 starting at 3pm
Where:  Bridgeport Park, 23520 Bridgeport Lane, between Bouquet and McBean Parkway

Canyon Theatre Guild “The 39 Steps”

Sheriff’s “Fun In The Sun Chili Cook Off”
When:  Saturday, October 4 from 11am-4pm
Where:  Jack S. Bones Equestrian Center, 26983 Tapia Canyon Road, Castaic
Details:  The 2014 Sheriff’s “Fun In The Sun Chili Cook Off” is ready to tantalize our taste buds and offer us extra Fun In The Sun.  Over 25 booths will be dedicated to chili.  There will be a classic car show, live music, kid zone, Sheriff’s Department displays, crafters and vendors.  An Adult Chili Card is $10, Junior Tasting Card is $5 and children under age 5 are free.  All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Santa Clarita & Tri-Valley.  More information is available by email chiclicookoff@lasd.org  

Save Your Photos Day

When:  Saturday, September 27 from 10am-noon
Where:  Valencia Public Library, 3743 W. Valencia Boulevard
Details:  You can learn how to protect your photos and films at Save Your Photos Day.  This is a free community event.  Learn how to protect you photos before disaster strikes.  Bring 50 of your favorite photos for a free photo scan.  Bring your home movies to learn how to create back-up copies and a digital master.

Action Family Foundation “Drugs Kill”
When:  Thursday, October 2 from 6-8pm
Where:  Dianne Van Hook University Center, on the COC Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  Action Family Foundation is hosting an informational meeting “Drugs Kill.”  “Learn the truth about drugs, and how it’s affecting you.”  Action Family Foundation knows the questions that we should all be asking ourselves and “Drugs Kill” will give us the answers.  If you are having urgent trouble with a member of your family, call 1-800-367-8336.  More information about Action Family Foundation is available online.  

Harvest Festival
When:  Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4 from 10am-6pm;  Sunday, October 5 from 10am-5pm
Where:  Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 W. Harbor Boulevard, Ventura
Details:  The Harvest Festival Art & Craft Show is coming to Ventura.  The Festival features 24,000 handmade American art & crafts in hundreds of booths.  The booths include jewelry, clothing, specialty foods, photography, art, wood, music and ceramics.  There is stage and strolling entertainment, festival food, and a kid activity center.  Tickets are available online.     KHTS has a limited number of Harvest Festival tickets for sale as part of our half-price Restaurant Row program.  To purchase one or more tickets come into the KHTS offices, 27225 Camp Plenty Road, at Soledad Canyon, Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5pm, or purchase online at shopkhts.com.    If you pay online for your purchase the tickets can be mailed to you (there is a $2.50 charge per order).  Tickets are valued at $9 and sold at KTHS for $4.50.  In addition to the Harvest Festival at the Ventura Fairgrounds, the tickets are good for Harvest Festivals:  AnaheimConvention Center, October 10-12;  Del Mar Fairgrounds, October 17-19, and;  Pomona Fairgrounds, December 5-7.   More information, directions and a vendor list is available online.     

Hart High Marching Band “Family Dinner And Movie Night”
When:  Saturday, September 27 from 3:30pm-9pm
Where:  Hart High School Auditorium, 24825 Newhall Avenue, Newhall
Details:  Hart High School Marching Band is holding their “Family Dinner and Movie Night” and everyone is invited.  Two family movies will be screened, “The Lego Movie” and “Tangled.”  The outdoor barbeque will have food and drink items for $1 or less.  All proceeds benefit the Hart Regiment Marching Band.  More information is available by calling 661-388-2244 or email ruthfulleraldridge@yahoo.com
