Antelope Valley FairAntelope Valley Fair

Where:  Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, 2551 W. Avenue H, Lancaster – see map and directions on website
Details:  The 76th Annual Antelope Valley Fair & Alfalfa Festival is back.  The carnival section has a wide variety of thrill rides, games and a Kid Zone.  There will be a wide choice of fair food.  The Concert Stage will have free concerts featuring tribute bands and evening concerts featuring Kool & The Gang with The Commodores; Sublime w/ Rome; Montgomery Gentry; and Lynyrd Skynyrd.  Check out the Figure 8 Race, Monster Trucks and Demo Derby.  The traditional Alfalfa Festival events are represented with livestock exhibits, Miss AV and her court, and Home Art Demonstrations of jewelry, cupcake decorating, and cheesecake and pie baking.  KHTS is giving away tickets to concerts and general admission on our Facebook page.   More information, concert schedules, ticket information, tickets, directions and more are available online.

Valencia Marketplace “Back-to-School Event”

When:  Saturday, August 23 from noon-3pm
Where:  Valencia Marketplace Outdoor Amphitheater, on The Old Road at McBean Parkway near  the Noah’s Bagels, just look for the KHTS Antique White Fire Truck
Details:   Valencia Marketplace is celebrating “Back-to-School”.  KHTS will be giving away a stash of prizes.  The KHTS 1948 Antique Mack Fire Truck will be there for fun and photo opportunities. Check out your favorite stores for Back-to-School specials.  Dance to rockin’ music, check out the balloon animal magic, win prizes, and work on Back-to-School crafts.   Think Back-to-School at the Valencia Marketplace.  

Canyon Theatre Guild “Shrek, The Musical”Shrek, The Musical

When:  Saturday at 8pm on August 23; Sunday at 2pm on August 24
Where:   Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia  
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild is kicking off the 2014-2015 season with their Santa Clarita Regional Theatre performances of the family friendly and thoroughly hilarious “Shrek, the Musical.”  “Shrek, the Musical” based on the DreamWorks movie, comes to Santa Clarita.  The musical is a story that most families know and is presented in a new way “full of all-new songs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery.”  Tickets are $12-$29 depending on seat location.  Tickets are on sale at the Canyon Theatre Guild by calling 661-799-2702.  More information is available online

Details: The City of Santa Clarita presents their 6th Annual Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival. All Santa Clarita Families are invited to join in on FREE festival activities to experience sports and healthy living like never before! More information is available online.

Concerts In The Park “Hollywood U2”

Canyon Theatre Guild “Forever Plaid”Canyon Theatre Guild presents Forever Plaid

When:  Fridays at 8pm:  August 22; Saturdays at 8pm: August 23; Sundays at 2pm: August 24 
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall 
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild has the hilarious “Forever Plaid,” the “most popular and successful ‘jukebox’ musicals ever.”  “Forever Plaid” revolves around four 1950s male singers that are killed in a car crash on the way to their first big concert.  They are given the chance to “fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.”  You’ll want to croon along to songs from the show that includes: Heart & Soul, Sixteen Tons, Love Is A Many Splendored Things.  For tickets call the Canyon Theatre Guild Box Office at 661-799-2702.  More information is available online.

Lancaster JetHawksYouth Sports JetHawks Day – Register Today

When: Saturday, August 30 at 6 p.m. – purchase tickets before August 23 to be entered into First Pitch Drawing
Where: JetHawks Stadium “The Hanger”, 45116 Valley Central Way, Lancaster 
Details: The City of Santa Clarita  and the Lancaster JetHawks  will be holding their 3rd Annual Youth Sports JetHawks Day. Tickets are $8 for Preferred Grandstand, $13 for Preferred Grandstand AND Sleepover. Each ticket purchased will be eligible for a raffle drawing to throw out the game’s first pitch.  Drawing for the first pitch will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 4:00 p.m. at the Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival and the last day to purchase tickets is August 29th. Saugus High Dance Team “Goodwill Fundraiser”

When:  Saturday, August 23 from 9am-1pm
Where:  Saugus High School, 21900 West Centurion Way, Saugus
Details:  Saugus High School Dance Team is holding a “Goodwill Collection Fundraiser.”  Clothing, shoes, toys, books and household article are accepted.  Sports and fitness equipment is also welcome.  Unwearable clothing items are acceptable because Goodwill can recycle the material.  Large furniture items and electronic devices cannot be accepted.  If you have items that need to be picked up, call 213-760-0066 and leave your phone number and address. 

City Of Santa Clarita “SENSES” 

When:  Thursday, August 21 starting at 7 pm
Where:  Old Town Newhall
Details:  Every third Thursday SENSES comes to us at Old Town Newhall.  This week’s psychedelic theme “Disco Fever” will bring the energy of Studio 54 to Old town Newhall with flashing strobe lights and groovy dance tunes of the Disco era’s hottest bands. Details:  To celebrate the 20th annual River Rally, the City is inviting students K-6 grades to submit an art design that may be selected as the artwork printed on this year’s t-shirts for the event. Submissions are to be sent via email by August 22. The Santa Clara River Rally will be held Saturday, September 20 from 8am to 11am at Wiley Canyon Road and Via Princessa Bridge.  More information is available online

City Of Santa Clarita “Let’s Go To The Beach”

When:  Runs through Sunday, August 31
Where:  various locations throughout Santa Clarita
Details:  Grab your towel and sunscreen and had out to Santa Monica Beach, the easy way.  The City of Santa Clarita is again offering rides on air-conditioned commuter express buses.  Travelers can bring their beach chair, coolers and even surfboards.  Summer Beach Bus fares are $3 each way for children and adults, and $1.50 each way for Seniors and persons with disabilities.  Exact cash fares or TAP stored value only – no monthly passes accepted.  Those under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.  Unaccompanied minors must bring valid school identification.  More information on routes and pickup locations, RSVP for large groups, bus etiquette, and more is available by calling 661-294-1BUS or online

Details:  The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is part of the Sixth Annual “Summer Food Drive” to help Santa Clarita Valley families in need.  Take a trip to the grocery store and help fill the SCV Food Pantry.  Summer is a tough time for the Food Pantry because so many donating families are on the go in the summer and not donating at the same levels as the holidays.  At the same time, local children that may benefit from school programs are out of school for the summer.  Read more about what is needed in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry To Host Summer Food Drive.  Donation Bins are located: City Hall, Santa Clarita Sports Complex, Transit Maintenance Facility, Central Park, City’s Corporate Yard, Valencia Library, Old Town Newhall Library, and Canyon Country Library.  Learn more about the Santa Clarita Food Pantry online.

City Of Santa Clarita “Pills Kill” Symposium
When:  Wednesday, August 27 beginning at 6pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Activities Center, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, near Golden Valley 
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita are hosting “Pills Kill: Prescription To Addiction” Symposium.  Prescription dug abuse has become a national epidemic.  Prescription drugs are a gateway to other drugs. Prescription drugs can be highly addictive, and are often deadly.  There will be a Resource Expo from 6pm-6:30pm.  The Symposium starts at 6:30pm and will cover signs of abuse, tools for prevention, and resources for those who need help.  The Symposium is the fourth in the Heroin Kills series and is free and open to the public.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website:  City Of Santa Clarita To Host Prescription Drug Symposium.    More information is available online.

Details: SCV Historical Society’s Heritage Junction’s outdoor marketplace held on the first weekend of the month is set against the natural and historical backdrop of Heritage Junction in Santa Clarita. Stop by and experience a slice of Americana at Santa Clarita’s premier independent craft show featuring an ever changing mix of attractions, local artisans, crafters and small businesses. Special Olympics Santa Clarita “Golf Tournament”
When: Monday, September 8 at 9 am

Details: Tee off and change a life at the Charity Golf Tournament. Special Olympics Santa Clarita and Tri-Valley will host this tournament at the beautiful Valencia Country Club on September 8 at 9 a.m. Your support raises much needed funding for individuals with intellectual disabilities while having a fun day of golf at the same time.  More information is available online.  

Santa Clarita Ballet “Beauty And The Beast” 
When:  Saturday, September 13 at 7:30pm and Sunday, September 14 at 2pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the COC Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 
Details:  The Santa Clarita Ballet has the production “Beauty and the Beast.”  “Beauty and the Beast” tells the romantic tale of a devoted daughter who lives with a hideous Beast to spare her father’s life.  But of course, love conquers all, Beauty’s trust and fondness grows, and the Beast’s cure is removed.  Santa Clarita Ballet company members and guest professional dancers will perform to the impressionistic themes of composers Ravel, Debussy and Faure.  Tickets are now on sale through Santa Clarita Ballet by coming into the studio on Oak Avenue during Box Office Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 3-6pm; Wednesday from 4-6pm; and Saturday from 9:30am-1:30pm.  You may also call 661-251-0366 and leave a message and your call will be returned.  Learn more about Santa Clarita Ballet and tickets online

Michael Hoefflin Foundation “Evening Under The Stars” Michael Hoefflin Foundation

Details:  The Michael Hoefflin Foundation “Evening Under The Stars Benefitting Kids With Cancer” is back with a hole new look and location.  The evening will feature the Bella Circo performance called “La Galleria.”  This acrobatic troupe has aerial acts similar to Cirque du Soleil performances.  There will be dinner, live auction and silent auction.  More information and tickets for “Evening Under The Stars” are available by calling 250-4100 or online
