SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – August 06, 2014

For some SCV families, this upcoming weekend is the final chance to catch up on your summer fun before school goes back in session. So take summer out with a bang!

Here are my top 5 picks of family-fun events in Santa Clarita this weekend:

Summer movies in the parkSCV Buzz - Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita - August 06, 2014

Friday night the 8th you can enjoy a FREE summer movie in the park: “The Nut Job”.  The pre-show activities start at 7pm and the movie airs at dusk on the William S. Hart Park picnic grounds. You can call 259.1750 for info. Bring your picnic, chairs or blankets, and (not required but handy) your kids. The movies plot centers around a mischievous squirrel, his rat friend, a Nut Store heist, and a questionable title.

Santa Clarita Bowling

Bowling can be surprisingly fun for kids, especially with the gutter rails up. Did you know that Santa Clarita Lanes has a Sunday morning special? Only $1 on Sundays from 8-11:30am for up to 4 games. Single people will still be sleeping, but YOU parents will be up way before 8, right? So visit santaclaritalanes.com for details on that and other specials. And no worries, you can sleep eventually…when your kids are in college.

Concerts in the Park

SCV Buzz - Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita - August 06, 2014The outdoors is fun during the daytime, but the weather has made it a little crispy, so finding an evening outdoor event is a great idea. This week you can take the family to a rock ‘n’ roll party featuring Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries at Central Park and be-bop-a-loo-bop in a fun community atmosphere. It’s on Saturday, August 9th, at 7pm and will be a great way to bid goodbye to summer break. Bring your own chairs, blankets, and food. And make it fried food, to do honor to the name of the band (defibrillator not included). Click here for info.

Indoor classes and play areas

When you are looking for something to do on a hot summer day, there is no shortage of indoor classes and play areas in the Santa Clarita Valley. But there can be a shortage of cash to pay for the sometimes-pricey admissions, especially if there are multiple kids in your family. BUT…some of the daily deal sites (Groupon, Living Social, etc…) have deals for you!

You have to check in often but in the last two weeks I have seen discounts for tons of places including We Rock the Spectrum, Gymboree, and Jump 5150, all in Santa Clarita. And as an extra fun activity, have your tweens/teens pick out what they want to do within the budget you give them and see what they come up with!

“Frozen” Mondays at the Valencia Ice Station

Frozen songs feel plain ole depressing when it’s 110 degrees outside? Well, Monday the 11th is the final night of “Frozen” Mondays at the Ice Station, where you and your kids can sing along to the hit movie at full voice, while sailing across the ice on skates. It’s 6:30-8pm and only $5 for admission and skate rental!

Visit icestation.net for additional info. Frosty will be there to skate too, but be careful singing “Like Summer” in his presence. He doesn’t know…
