Santa Clarita’s Youth Sports And Healthy Families Festival

The city of Santa Clarita’s free sixth annual Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival will be taking place Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

The city of Santa Clarita’s free sixth annual Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival will be taking place Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

Offering a variety of sports activities, interactive lessons, healthy food demonstrations and much more as children get the opportunity to try out new sports or activities, officials said. While providing families with simple healthful tips and important information in ways they can live a healthier and more active lifestyles.

“The Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival is one of the City’s most popular family events and draws thousands of attendees each year,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “This year, we’ve extended the festival by two full hours, allowing local residents more time to sample some of Santa Clarita’s top youth sports activities, learn healthy eating tips and have fun while doing so.”

The festival will be divided into 20 different activity zones that will offer recreational games and activities ranging from basketball, soccer and cheerleading while offering nontraditional activities like snorkeling, SNAG golf and futsal, indoor soccer.

KaBoom the Lancaster JetHawks team mascot will be returning to cheer kids on and pose for photos as they return with their exciting Home Run Derby activity.

A Play Every Day! area at the festival will be featuring back to basic offering activities like hop scotch, jump rope and hula hoop in hopes to inspire families to get active in their everyday lives. They will also have rock climbing , boxing and futuristic games that are interactive through XerPro sports wall for kids and adults.

There will be schedule stage performances and demonstrations from local groups like hoop dance, TK tae kwon do and a hawaiian dance, boxing, futsal.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter in a raffle with the opportunity in winning exciting prizes like tickets to Disneyland, a gift card to Elephant Bar or Menchies.  As all of the  proceeds go to the City Score program as it provides recreational scholarships for the youth.

The Healthy Families Experience presented by Kaiser they will be there to provide healthy information on living a healthy an active lifestyle. Explore the Store! in which is sponsored by Whole foods will have the opportunity for attendees to browse through and pick fruits and veggies by participating in a Create Your Plate activity that helps design healthy snacks.

Including a variety of activities that will be offered to younger kids that is sponsored by My Gym will be face painting, jumping and arts and crafts.
