Einstein Academy’s class of 2014 is sending all but two of its students to two- or four-year schools, and those two students are joining the armed forces, said Principal Edward Gika.Einstein Academy Class of 2014

“We are very proud of our first graduating class -- they’ve set a standard that I know in the future we’ll not only meet, but attempt to exceed,” Gika said. “We know that they’ll be successful individuals.”

In addition to a curriculum abiding to University of California standards, the school tries to develop good citizenship in its students by encouraging community service and extracurricular activities such as entrepreneurial programs, Gika said.

“We’re trying to teach the larger lessons about good citizenship, how to be a part of a community and still be an individual in it,” he said.

The school limited its first 12th grade class to 42 students in order to focus on educational lessons and example-setting, Gika said.

The smaller class size was to help ensure the culture AEALAS was trying to establish “trickled down,” he said, noting an influx could have been problematic.

The next graduating class will have 75 students, which is the school’s normal classroom cap size, he said.

The list of schools its graduates will be attending include Barnard College, Boston College, Boston University, Cornell College, University of California Berkeley, Northeastern, University of Michigan and Smith College, among others.

Each student will graduate from the school having completed a minimum of four years of world language studies during middle and high school, according to school officials.

Einstein AcademyThe school is chartered through the William S. Hart Union High School District.

“Academically speaking, they’re just an exemplary group,” Gika said. “It’s something that we hoped for, but on some levels, it’s like ‘Wow, they did a really good job.”
