The foundation plans to honor 53 teachers, one from each public school in all five Santa Clarita school districts, selected by their peers for providing excellent classroom instruction and leadership, according to a SCV Education Foundation news release.
“At times (teaching) can be a thankless job,” said Ann Unger, executive director of SCV Education Foundation. “They have a huge role in the lives of our students– everyone has a story of a teacher that has made a big difference in their lives. This is the evening to show our appreciation and the chance for the community to join in on that.”
Refreshments will be available before the start of the program, when superintendents and administrators from each school district will honor the selected teachers by calling them to the stage one by one and presenting them with an award and gift bag.

“What is taken into account is their outstanding teaching in the classroom, leadership at the school itself, how they inspire students and other teachers and have a passion to help children,” Unger said.
Other features of the evening include entertainment by students and speakers from Santa Clarita schools, and State Superintendent of Instruction Tom Torlakson is scheduled to speak as well, event officials said.
More than 1,700 teachers have been honored at the annual event over the past 30 years.
Teacher Tribute is open to the public and tickets are $45 per person. Click here to purchase tickets online. Proceeds from the event go toward supporting the programs and services of the SCV Education Foundation.
The event will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, located at College of the Canyons in Valencia.
