The Santa Clarita Council, which emcompasses more than 20,000 PTA members, is one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley.
At the convention, parents will learn and share their opinions about education reform in California, and have the opportunity to attend more than 75 workshops focused on improving leadership skills.
“Once a PTA member attends the annual PTA conference, they come back inspired and motivated,” said Sue Solomon, SCV Council PTA president and Newhall School District board member. “Even (I), after 24 years in the PTA, return ready to work, inspire, and support PTAs across our valley.”
Keynote speakers for the 2014 convention include leaders in education and government.
- Kamala Harris, California Attorney General
- Jeff Charbonneau, National Teacher of the Year
- Tim Smith, California Teacher of the Year
- Otha Thornton, National PTA President
PTA members attending the convention will also be able to attend the EdSource symposium for free, with the topic “The New Accountability: Testing Students and Evaluating Schools in the Age of the Common Core.”
“Parents, community members, and educators who volunteer in the PTA work exceptionally hard to provide resources for our schools and additional, enriching educational opportunities for our students and their families…” Solomon said. “They learn and develop amazing leadership skills that most certainly transfer to working outside of the home.”
Tickets to the convention are still available online.
