A light, shallow earthquake shook the Castaic area Saturday at 8:12:19 a.m.

It occurred 0.4 miles below ground in the Angeles National Forest in the Fish Canyon-Elderberry Canyon area, just above the western arm of the Castaic Reservoir.

The 3.9-magnitude shaker was preceded by a deeper, small-but-measurable 1.4-magnitude jolt at 5:00:56 a.m.

As of noon Saturday, it has been followed by five deeper quakes in the same area, each with a magnitude of 1.2 to 2.0 (at 11:42:05 a.m.), and all about 5 miles below ground.
