Earthquake North Of Castaic Shakes Santa Clarita Valley

There was a 3.9 magnitude earthquake 8 miles North of Castaic this morning at 8:19 a.m. that shook the Santa Clarita Valley.

A light, shallow earthquake shook the Castaic area Saturday at 8:12:19 a.m.

It occurred 0.4 miles below ground in the Angeles National Forest in the Fish Canyon-Elderberry Canyon area, just above the western arm of the Castaic Reservoir.

The 3.9-magnitude shaker was preceded by a deeper, small-but-measurable 1.4-magnitude jolt at 5:00:56 a.m.

As of noon Saturday, it has been followed by five deeper quakes in the same area, each with a magnitude of 1.2 to 2.0 (at 11:42:05 a.m.), and all about 5 miles below ground.

Kyle Jellings grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley and graduated from Canyon High School in 2004. Following his high school career he spent three years at College of the Canyons where he graduated with his Associate's Degree.
