DFYIT, or Drug Free Youth In Town, is a program  that helps kids to lead a drug-free life.

The program works as a partnership between the William S. Hart Union High School District, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and the city of Santa Clarita.

This program was started in 1992 in Miami, and has since grown to more than 60,000 members in the United States.

“This event is about celebrating the program and all we have accomplished," said Brad Albert, one of the main organizers of the DFYIT program in the Santa Clarita Valley. "We’re very proud of all the members.”

Since this program was introduced to Santa Clarita this past year, about 800 students in the Hart district have joined and participate in this club on their campus.

”It’s fantastic and it helps kids stay drug-free," said Brayden Plush, the eighth-grade president of the Castaic Middle School DFYIT program. "It has helped me rise above the influence.

"Students should join because people with the same attitudes about drugs with be in it with you,” he said.

Being part of the DFYIT program includes access to: community service projects, school club meetings, educational workshops, drugs screenings, the Youth Advisory Committee, Parent-to-Parent forums and student mentorships.
