Defendants Sentenced In Valencia, SFV Takeover Armed Robberies

Two men involved in armed takeover robberies in three valleys, Antelope, San Fernando and Santa Clarita, are expected to receive decades in prison when they are sentenced later this month.

Jahrell Hayes and Mark Wise, both 27, had different outcomes in Judge David Gelfound’s San Fernando courtroom this week.

After an investigation by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA Unit detectives, the pair were implicated in two armed robberies of an electronics store chain in the San Fernando Valley, one in Palmdale, and another in Valencia.

Hayes was convicted of 26 felony counts Monday, following two hours of deliberations.

“The defendant was found guilty of six counts of kidnapping for the purpose of robbery; seven counts of kidnapping; 10 counts of second-degree robbery; two counts of false imprisonment by violence; and one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon,” said Shiara Davila-Morales, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

“Jurors additionally found true 23 allegations of personal use of a firearm,” she added.

Hayes is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 23 in Dept. D of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch. He faces multiple life terms in state prison.

Wise took a plea deal several months ago.

“Wise pleaded no contest on April 9, to three counts of second-degree robbery,” Davila-Morales said. “Wise additionally admitted a prior strike for robbery.”

Under the terms of a negotiated plea agreement, Wise is expected to be sentenced to 20 years in state prison.

The case was prosecuted by Jeffrey Greenberg.

Wise is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 15 in Dept. D of Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch.
