Amy Wiles, a parent of a member of the dance team, said the amount was over $300 and could have been as high as $600.

Members of the dance team and their parents were wrapping Christmas presents and kept the money that was donated in a crate. Wiles suspects someone was staking out the location because the money was not taken out of the crate often.

The incident was reported to mall security, but there are no cameras at the location of the crime.

Wiles was not present during the theft, but worked the shift prior to the incident. When she left there was $300 in the crate, and although the money had not been counted since, it was taken at the end of second shift.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Dubin confirmed a report was filed and deputies responded at 7:52 p.m.

If you wish to donate to the team you can send a check to Michelle Brown at Valencia High School: 27801 Dickason Dr., Santa Clarita, CA 91355. Make the check out to Valencia ASB, memo: #2356 Dance team.
