UPDATE: Santa Clarita Deputies Release Crime Reports For May 5-11

Last week, deputies dealt with burglary, shoplifting and grand theft auto, according to last week's crime reports.

UPDATES WITH VALENCIA CRIME REPORTS AND THIS WEEK'S CRIME HIGHLIGHTS.

Two DUI arrests, with one involving a stolen taxi cab, and several criminals on the lam kept Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies busy this week.

Crime Reports

Janet Brandel, 38, of Saugus, a science teacher at West Ranch High School, was arrested for alleged DUI on Friday, May 9, after a concerned citizen notified deputies.

Jaclyn Kemsley, 27, of Canyon Country, was arrested Sunday and charged with DUI after she allegedly stole a taxi cab while the driver was helping her move her car.

Mario Salazar, 20, of Canyon Country, was arrested Monday in connection with the theft of nearly $2,000 in ammunition from the Oak Tree Gun Club in April. Surveillance footage and tips from the community help deputies locate Salazar.

Rick Fuhrmann, a central witness in the Dino Guglielmelli murder-for-hire case, gave an exclusive interview to KHTS AM-1220 on Tuesday, detailing his relationship with Guglielmelli and what the case has cost him.

Jake Heffernan, 20, of Valencia, who is charged with vandalism and burglary, was in court for a progress report and plea deal Wednesday. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to three years probation and had to pay $280 in restitution.

Michael Berman, 54, of Canyon Country, pleaded guilty to 82 felony counts involving gold fraud and was sentenced to four years and four months in prison on Thursday.

Timothy Robert Goebel, 59, and Justin Cookson, 30, both of Canyon Country, were arrested during a probation check on Thursday. Goebel is also a registered sex offender.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have released the crime reports for May 5 through May 11 in Canyon Country, Castaic, Gorman, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia. KHTS publishes crime reports as they are made available.

Canyon Country Crime - east

There were two grand theft autos reports in Zone 8 last week. The first incident was reported near the 18000 block of Jakes Way. A 1992 Toyota Previa van was stolen from the location. The second theft occurred near the 17800 block of Ness Drive. In this incident a 2006 Toyota Tacoma was stolen.

A burglary was reported at the Canyon Country College of the Canyons campus. In this incident campus security found that the main building’s front was pried open.They also found that there was damage to a key box inside the office. They were unable to determine if anything was taken.

A residential burglary was reported near the 16800 block of Goodvale Road. In this incident the rear sliding glass window was shattered and the suspects made entry into the house. The suspects stole approximately $13,000 worth of jewelry from the victim’s home.

Castaic/Val Verde Crime

The following crimes were reported in Zone 2, Castaic/Val Verde.

Deputies responded to the 3100 block of Castaic Road for a disturbance call. After contacting a male Hispanic adult in the street, it was determined that he had just burglarized a local business. Witnesses to the crime were contacted, the crime was confirmed and the tools were recovered. The suspect was arrested for Commercial Burglary.      

A robbery call was reported at a bar on Castaic Road. One patron attacked another patron from behind and took his wallet. The suspect, a Castaic resident, was arrested by responding deputies and the wallet was returned.    

A business in the 2700 block of Sloan Canyon reported an attempt burglary at their store. At some point over the weekend suspects attempted to pry open the rear door of the location causing damage to the door. No entry was made.   

Gorman/Neenach Crime

As a reminder, due to the recent Station Fire, the Pacific Crest Trail is closed from San Fran Sisquito Canyon Road going west to Pine Canyon Road. This means the hikers, who will be coming through the area soon, will be walking on the roads to get through the burned out areas. Please be cautious while driving.

Two residences/ranches in the east end of the desert were victims of theft. Tools, generators, a small safe, horse tack, firearms and ammunition were taken from the locations. The locations are within a mile of each other, one on each side of Highway 138.

Newhall Crime

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

A residential burglary occurred in the 24100 block of Arch Street between Saturday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m. A 60” plasma TV was stolen.

A petty theft occurred at a business in the 23400 block of Lyons Avenue on Thursday, May 8 and another at a business in the 24100 block of Lyons Avenue on Monday, May 5.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the intersection of Hawkbryn Avenue and Wabuska Street sometime between Wednesday, May 7 at 5 p.m. and Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 a.m. A window was broken and some tools were stolen.

Two vehicle thefts occurred in the area of Valle Del Oro and Dockweiler Drive between Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8. One was a 1992 Honda Accord and the other was a 2000 Honda Civic. Neither vehicle has been recovered.

Saugus Crime

The following crimes were reported in the Saugus area over the past week.

There was a grand theft in the 28800 block of Seco Canyon Road between last September and this May. The victim realized that some of her jewelry was missing from her bedroom. The victim had multiple people over in the house at the times of the theft.

A grand theft was reported in the 25800 block of Springbrook Avenue between March 9 and April 25. It was discovered by management at the location that the business account was used to purchase items for personal use. Detectives are actively working the case.

We had a petty theft reported from a local business in the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on May 11. An employee at the location admitted to stealing money from the company. Detectives are completing the case.

There were multiple arrests made over the past week in the Saugus area. The arrests include under the influence of narcotics and DUI.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge Crime

Last week, the following Part 1 crime occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 25300 block of The Old Road. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s locked vehicle and took a stereo/head-unit.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 25600 block of Shaw Place. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and took a bag containing miscellaneous items. The victim left a rear passenger window slightly rolled down.

A shoplift burglary occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A male and a female suspect were detained by loss prevention personnel when they used old receipts to return unpaid for items.The suspects were subsequently arrested by responding deputies.

A petty theft occurred near the 24900 block of Pico Canyon Road. The victim left a personal check unattended inside the location and when the victim returned to locate the check, it was gone.

A Grand Theft Auto occurred near the 25300 block of The Old Road. A 2008 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle was taken from the parking lot of the location.

Valencia Crime

During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia included vehicle burglaries and grand thefts from lockers.

There were four vehicle burglaries that occurred over the weekend between the hours of 6 and 10 p.m. Victims reported that their vehicles were parked in business parking lots. Entrance and exit were made by smashing passenger windows or punched key holes on the driver side doors. Items stolen were a wallet, purse, iPhone, iPad, sunglasses and Beats headphones. The items stolen were in the center console areas or on rear back seats visible from the outside of the vehicles.

Two grand thefts occurred at 28200 block of Newhall Ranch Road between the hours of 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The victims reported placing personal items inside the gym lockers while using the facilities. The victims returned to find the locks gone off their lockers and the items stolen (wallets and keys). The investigation regarding these incidents is currently ongoing.
