UPDATE: Deputies Release April 14-20 Crime Reports For Santa Clarita Valley

Deputies have released the crime reports for April 14 through 20.

UPDATES WITH VALENCIA CRIME REPORTS AND THIS WEEK’S CRIME HIGHLIGHTS.

The incidents that Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to this week included assault, stabbing and trespassing.

Santa Clarita Crime

Kimberly Shanklin, 45, of Belleview, Ill., was arrested Saturday on assault charges at the Walmart in Canyon Country in connection with the petition disputes occurring in front of businesses around the valley. She was later released.

Detectives are investigating a stabbing near the VU Bar in Newhall that took place around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday. Two victims were taken to the hospital and a suspect was arrested but later released and the charges were dropped.

The city announced updated crime statistics Tuesday, released by the Sheriff’s Department. Overall crime for the first three months of 2014 went down in the city but went up in unincorporated areas, compared to the same time last year.

In an incident similar to the “blonde scammer” thefts of last year, a woman had her wallet stolen from her cart at Sprouts in Valencia. The thief then used stolen credit cards to make large purchases in the same shopping center. Deputies are asking for help identifying the suspect.

Deputies met with parents at City Hall on Wednesday evening to talk about teens and the epidemic of sexting through social media.

Two men, Timothy Middleton, 27, of Hillsboro, Missouri, and Joshua Morrison, 23, of Anaheim Hills, were arrested on a trespassing charge Thursday evening. This incident also had to do with the petition disputes.

Deputies will hold another DUI checkpoint on Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., at an undisclosed location in Santa Clarita.

The April 14-20 crime reports for Canyon Country, Castaic, Gorman, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia have been released by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies. KHTS AM-1220 publishes crime reports in alphabetical order by community as they are made available.

Canyon Country Crime – east

A robbery was reported near 16500 block of Soledad Canyon Road. In this incident the victim’s boyfriend chased her into a business where he assaulted her and stole her Samsung cell phone. This case is being investigated by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

There was a petty theft that occurred near the intersection of Honey Willow Drive and Cherry Willow Drive. The victim was participating in an Easter egg hunt at the location and left her purse on a park bench. When she returned to her purse, she discovered that her iPad was missing from her purse.

A grand theft occurred near the 27000 block of Marisa Drive. In this incident the victim parked his truck on Marisa Drive. He had a pocket bike in the bed of his truck that was stolen sometime during nighttime hours.

Canyon Country Crime – west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

An assault with great bodily injury occurred near the 27050 block of Robert C. Lee Parkway. During a basketball game the suspect and victim got into a verbal argument. The argument escalated and the suspect punched the victim in the face causing injury. The suspect was arrested by deputies. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A grand theft occurred near the 28100 block of Florence Lane. The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle through an open/unlocked door. While inside, the suspect stole the victim’s hearing aids. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A grand theft occurred near the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Sierra Highway. The suspect entered a locked water tower site and stole two solar panels from the water tower. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A burglary to a vehicle occurred near the 18700 block of Wellhaven Street. The suspect smashed the driver side window and opened the engine hood. The suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle battery. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

An arson occurred near the 16700 block of Sierra Highway. The suspect set fire to a structure. The suspect admitted to setting the fire and was arrested by deputies.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.  

Castaic/Val Verde Crime

The following crimes were reported in Zone 2, Castaic/Val Verde.

A residential burglary occurred off of Morningside Drive in Val Verde. An empty rental property had several appliances stolen. The suspects made entry to the locked house by prying open the back door.

There were two separate vehicle thefts reported in Castaic. A Ford F-700 service truck was stolen off of Castaic Road. The vehicle was recovered the same day in Kern County. A resident off of Ridge Top Lane reported her adult son took her vehicle without her permission. The son returned the car later the same day and was arrested. He was additionally charged for using his mother’s credit card and spending money that was in her purse left in the vehicle.   

A theft from a vehicle was reported off of Ridge Route Road. The owner said miscellaneous paperwork was taken. No signs of forced entry were seen.

Gorman/Neenach Crime

An attempted theft from a semi truck trailer was reported in the area of Frazier Mountain Park Road and Peace Valley Road.

A theft was reported from a storage shed in a remote five acre lot in the area of Neenach. The shed had not been checked in more than two months.

Saugus Crime

The following crimes were reported in the Saugus area over the past week:

There was child abuse reported on April 17. The victim, a 7-month-old, was being treated in Los Angeles for injuries consistent with those of being abused in the home. Detectives are working the case.

A petty theft was reported in the 265002 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on April 17. While at a shopping center the victim left her medication unattended in her basket while she continued to shop. When she returned to her cart she discovered it was missing.

There were multiple arrests made over the past week in the Saugus area. The arrests include assault, narcotics, theft and DUI.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge Crime

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch:

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 25700 block of The Old Road. A third row seat was taken from a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe. There were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle.

There were four incidents of shoplifting near the 25400 block of The Old Road. Four arrests were made as a result of the incidents.

Valencia Crime

During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia included robbery, residential/vehicle burglary and numerous shoplifting from various businesses.

A robbery occurred on the 24000 block of Newhall Ranch Road at 9:30 p.m. The victim was walking to her vehicle when she was approached from behind by a white male adult. A struggle occurred whereas the suspect took off with the victim’s purse. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. The purse was recovered and returned to the victim.

A residential burglary occurred on the 23000 block of Edenton Place between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The victim stated he came home from work and found the back sliding glass door opened. The item stolen was an Apple iPad. There was no forced entry made to the home but the victim believes he locked all windows and doors before he left the home.

A vehicle burglary occurred on the 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard at approximately 6 p.m. The victim reported that her vehicle was parked in the mall parking lot. When she returned from shopping, she found the passenger door key hole had been punched by an unknown object. Items stolen were two laptop computers, a cell phone and credit cards. All of the stolen items were visible from outside the vehicle.
