Janet Brandel, 38, of Saugus, who’s listed as a science teacher on the school’s site, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. on a DUI charge at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. She was booked at the station less than two hours later, according to Sheriff’s Department arrest records.

An individual called into the Sheriff’s Station to report a woman sleeping in her car in a parking lot near the intersection of Bouquet Canyon and Seco Canyon roads. The woman then awoke and went into the store to buy beer, and then drove away.

The informant took down Brandel’s license plate number and reported it to the Sheriff’s Station, because the the person was concerned, according to the report.

Brandel was found driving her car minutes later. The teacher reportedly was headed home, as she was down the street from her house. The report notes a 12-pack was in the car unopened.

After a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputy issued a field sobriety test, Brandel was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

She was released from jail Saturday morning, and District Attorney’s Office officials do not yet have a court date for Brandel.

Hart district officials were aware of the matter, and said if there is any disciplinary action to be taken, it would be discussed at Hart district’s next board meeting, which would be next Wednesday.
