Deputies have released last week’s first crime reports for Newhall, Saugus and Stevenson Ranch.

UPDATES WITH CANYON COUNTRY, CASTAIC, GORMAN AND VALENCIA CRIME REPORTS AND THIS WEEK’S CRIME HIGHLIGHTS.
It was a relatively quiet week for Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies, with few significant incidents.

Due to inclement weather, deputies conducted a saturation patrol instead of a DUI checkpoint Friday night. The patrol netted 10 arrests, including one DUI drug suspect, four suspended/revoked drivers and five unlicensed drivers.
Deputies released the story this week of Joseph Taylor, 24, of Santa Clarita, who was arrested during the early morning hours of April 14 for breaking into a Canyon Country Jack in the Box, cooking six tacos and stealing a number of salads, cakes and waffles.
It was man against car on Monday, when a sedan drove through the front door of Manzanillo Mexican Restaurant in Canyon Country. The owner was behind the counter during the incident, but suffered only scratches and bruises.
Detectives are investigating the case of body found in a Newhall apartment Monday night. The body was badly burned and unrecognizable. The identity of the victim and the cause of the fire have not yet been determined.
The April 21-27 crime reports for the Santa Clarita Valley have been released deputies. KHTS AM-1220 publishes crime reports in alphabetical order by community as they are made available.
Canyon Country Crime – east
A “hot prowl” burglary was reported near the 18000 block of Annes Circle. In this incident, the victim heard someone kick open his front door while he was sleeping. When the victim went to his front door to investigate what had happened, the suspect fled the location. There is no suspect description from this incident.
A grand theft occurred near the 15000 block of Saddle Back Drive. In this incident the victim had a package stolen from her porch that contained more than $1,000 worth of property.
There were two thefts from vehicles reported from the parking area of the Golden Valley hiking trail. In both incidents, the front window to the vehicle had been smashed and property was taken from the vehicle.
A residential burglary occurred near the 16000 block of Live Oak Springs Canyon Road. The suspect entered through a window at the back of the victim’s house and stole two firearms and a Blu-ray player from the victims house.
Canyon Country Crime – west
This past week in Zone 7 the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:
A residential burglary occurred on the 20000 block of Jacana Court. The suspect made entry through a sliding glass door. While inside the location, the suspect stole numerous items from the victim. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.
A grand theft occurred on the 27400 block of Sierra Highway. The suspect stole a boat motor from within a locked gated area. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.
A petty theft occurred near the intersection of Camp Plenty Road and Soledad Canyon Road. The suspect stole the victim’s cell phone from a nearby outdoor table. A witness observed the theft and chased the suspect a short distance, catching the suspect. Deputies arrived and arrested the suspect.
A vehicle burglary occurred near the 26400 block of Golden Valley Road. The suspect smashed a window to a vehicle and stole the victim’s wallet from the center console.
Castaic/Val Verde Crime
The following crimes were reported in Zone 2, Castaic/Val Verde.
A vehicle burglary was reported off of San Martinez Road in Val Verde. A Nissan Altima had its front passenger window smashed. A purse and make up bag were taken off of the seat.
A grand theft was reported off of Chiquito Canyon Road. The suspects cut and stole numerous aluminum water nozzles and several feet of aluminum piping. The loss was estimated at $3500.
A gold Ford F-250 was stolen off of Blackfoot Court in Castaic. The theft occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning. The vehicle has a black bed cover and “bullet hole” stickers on the tailgate.
Gorman/Neenach Crime
There were no reported Part 1 crimes for the above period.
As a reminder, due to the recent Station Fire, the Pacific Crest Trail is closed from San Francisquito Canyon Road., going west to Pine Canyon Road. This means the hikers, who will be coming through the area soon, will be walking on the roads to get through the burned out areas. Please be cautious while driving.

Newhall Crime
A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.
A vehicle burglary occurred between Wednesday, April 23 at 8 p.m. and Thursday, April 24 at 8 a.m. in the 25000 block of Hawkbryn Avenue. A window was smashed and a car battery was stolen.
A Chevy truck was stolen from the 22400 block of 5th Street between Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23. The vehicle was later recovered undamaged on Race Street.
An assault occurred in the 23500 block of Newhall Avenue on Sunday, April 27 at 9:50 p.m. The victim was hit with a shovel, possibly in a dispute over a cell phone.
A business was burglarized in the 23400 block of Lyons Avenue, overnight between Monday, April 22 and Tuesday, April 23. The cash register was the apparent target.
A Toyota 4-Runner was stolen from the 23400 block of Newhall Avenue on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:40 a.m. The vehicle had been left unattended while it was still running. The vehicle was recovered by LAPD on Wednesday, April 23 undamaged.
Leaving a vehicle unattended while it is still running is never a good idea. Some of the obvious things that could happen: having the vehicle stolen easily and possibly being cited for the vehicle code violation (yes, it is illegal). If the vehicle causes property damage or injury because it moves somehow, you could be held civilly or even criminally liable.
A theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred Thursday, April 24, between 7 and 7:45 a.m., in the 24300 block of Wabuska Street. A car battery and a backpack with tools were taken.
Saugus Crime
The following crimes were reported in the Saugus area over the past week:
There was a robbery in the 22300 block of Cheraw Drive on April 26. The suspect assaulted the victim while at his residence and then forced him to give him his snowboard. The victim ran from the house and phoned the Sheriff’s Department. The suspect fled the location prior to deputies arriving on scene.
A petty theft was reported in the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on April 25. A petitioner was at the location gathering signatures when another petitioner stole his clipboard. The victim called the Sheriff’s Department and placed the suspect under private person’s arrest.
We had a vehicle burglary in the 22600 block of Garzota Drive on April 25. The victim woke up and discovered her window smashed and an item missing from inside the passenger compartment. It is unknown if anything else was taken.
Two juveniles were detained for shoplifting from a grocery store located in the 27600 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on April 22. Both juveniles were seen by security concealing items in their pockets and exiting the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Both juveniles were detained at their high school for the theft.
There were multiple arrests made over the past week in the Saugus area. The arrests include assault, theft, narcotics and DUI.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge Crime
Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch:
A commercial burglary occurred near the 23100 block of Coltrane Avenue. A male suspect kicked in the door of an office and took a large amount of ammunition. The case is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.
A vehicle burglary occurred near the 25300 block of The Old Road. An unknown suspect shattered the rear passenger window of the vehicle and took miscellaneous items.
A vehicle burglary occurred near the 27000 block of Henry Mayo Drive. An unknown suspect shattered the front passenger window and broke into a side storage box and took a welder.
A shoplift/burglary occurred near the 25500 block of The Old Road. A male suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after he tore the security tag off a hat and stuffed the hat down his shorts and walked out of the store. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies.
A petty theft/shoplift occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A female suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after failing to pay for items she concealed in a baby stroller. The suspect was cited and released at the location.
Valencia Crime
During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia included domestic violence, grand theft auto, petty theft and numerous shoplifting from various businesses.
A domestic violence occurred in the parking lot at the 23200 block of Valencia Boulevard at 6:30 p.m. The victim had an argument with her boyfriend during which he punched her in the face and attempted to strangle her. Witnesses got involved and immediately contacted the Sheriff’s Department. The boyfriend/suspect was arrested at the scene without incident and transported to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department for booking. The victim was treated for minor injuries.
Two grand thefts auto occurred at 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard between 12:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. One vehicle was a 1988 Volk Cabrio and the other one was a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, both of which were parked in a parking structure. A third vehicle was stolen from 23000 block of Frisca Drive at 12:45 hours. The vehicle, a 2000 Chevy Silverado, was parked in front of the victim’s residence.
A petty theft of an iPhone occurred at 26400 Rockwell Canyon Road at 11 a.m. The victim left his iPhone on the counter, unattended, inside a restroom. No witness or suspect was located.
