A Santa Clarita Valley woman who found a small explosive device in a storage unit she rented brought the package to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Around 1 p.m., a woman who was not identified by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials bought a  box, sealed in what appeared to be factory packaging, with a manufacturer’s label reading: “explosives.”

“Please, if you find something that looks like it could possibly be an explosive, don’t touch it,” officials said in a Nixle news release. “Call local law enforcement and let the Bomb Squad render the object safe. Never transport what appears to be an explosive and, in particular, please do not transport the object/package to a law enforcement or Fire Department facility.”

The contents of the box were silent and still, and the woman claimed she found the box in a storage unit she owned.

The box was placed outside the station.  Sheriff’s Arson Explosives Detail detectives immediately responded and processed the package for disposal.

The detectives stated that their preliminary investigation showed the package appeared to be a small industrial explosive.

Arson Explosives Detail detectives are continuing their investigation in what appears to be a noncriminal incident.
