Coleman, 27, of Valencia, was examined Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office at 8:30 a.m.

"The cause of death was deferred pending additional test results," said Craig Harvey, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner's office. "Until the additional testing is completed, the office will not release report or opinion on cause of death."

Additional testing may include a toxicology report on Coleman. The report could take between six to eight weeks to complete.

Whenever the death of an inmate occurs in the Los Angeles County jail system, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene, including separate investigations by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau, Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau and Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, according to a Nixle release.

Once the investigations are concluded, every aspect of the death is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Death Review Committee, according to the release.
