The child, named Travis Stratton, reportedly was being transported via helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hopsital.

He was declared dead at the hospital, according to officials.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

More than a dozen deputies who were involved in the search effort to find the child after he was reported missing were deeply moved by the loss, Dubin said.

One deputy said he had “never seen anything so touching,” Dubin said, describing the scene in the emergency room, where deputies waited for word on the child’s condition.

Deputies found the child in a swimming pool, and requested an emergency response.

Travis was seen heading northbound on The Old Road in Castaic.
