Santa Clarita deputies received numerous calls Sunday regarding a threat one Canyon High male student made against another Canyon High male student via text message, a conversation that the student photographed and posted on Instagram.

The first incident drew attention from national media, as a male Golden Valley boy was arrested as the lone suspect in what turned out to be what law enforcement officials ultimately deemed a hoax that led to the arrest of the 15-year-old student.

In this second, and reportedly unrelated incident, the person who reported the activity mentioned the previous event, which prompted beefed up security patrols around more than 75 local schools today, officials said.

"The caller was concerned in light of recent social media activities where a teenager was arrested for posted threats to high school students online,” according to a Sheriff’s Station Nixle release.

“Deputies learned the caller was referring to one single Instagram post, posted by a local Canyon High School student,” according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

“The text conversation included comments regarding school violence," according to the news release. "A screenshot of the conversation was then posted on Instagram by the Canyon High School student.”

Based on statements made by the child, it appears he sent the text messages to get a reaction from his friend and as a practical joke, according to the report.

The suspect realized too late that the threats were being taken seriously, and his friend already posted them online.

This most recent incident is not in any way connected to the incident reported Sunday, when threats, which turned out to be a hoax, were leveled at Valencia High, and the Santa Clarita Valley.

There were however, similarities with the incidents, Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Crime Prevention Unit.

"These incidents, while completely, separate share a common concern, and that's about a conversation that parents need to have with their children about social media activity," Dubin said.

A 13-year-old Canyon High student was arrested for the second incident. He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station around 3 p.m.

The identities of those involved were not released because they are minors.
